James Lee Low was a man with a hard life. He was a farmer, rancher,
water well driller and an oilfield worker. He worked in the days of the cable tool rigs,
before the rotaries of the present generation. He had a total of 13 children, but only 8
lived to maturity. Of the 8, one disappeared in 1928 under mysterious circumstances. There
are several stories about it, but nothing was ever known.
His wife, JoAnna Stegall, was of the same hard life. She died in
1927, a young woman by today's standards, but older than time according to the life she
had lived. In forty something years, she buried 5 children of various ages, but all
children.
Lee's second wife, Mrs. Jessie Clubb, bore two sons, but they
divorced, for reasons known to them only. Miss Jessie still lives at Ballenger, Runnels
County, Texas at this writing, and one of their sons, Billy, still lives there.
